Underneath that is Shift, which moves the cropped picture up and down, so editors and artists can fix the framing. All this does is add in the appropriate black bars at the top and bottom of the picture. There are also cropping controls for adding letterboxing to older 4:3 footage. Editors can change the input field order, to match how the footage was shot change the interpolation to either motion – the default – or blend, which is faster but action can have some ghosting and field smoothing to help avoid field strobing. 24p Deinterlace deinterlaces the footage, changes the framerate from 60i to 24p, and adds 3:2 pulldown. Choosing Deinterlace tells the software to make progressive frames from the interlaced frames. Editors can choose to Deinterlace or 24p Deinterlace. Go to effects – you can find frames under Red Giant Shooter Suite under Video Effects – and add it to the clip.
Import in the video footage, and drop it on the timeline. Make a new sequence using the DV25 as the preset. Say something from the turn of the century has been shot on regular old MiniDV, using interlaced 29.97. I’m going to use Premiere Pro for this example. After Effects users have Frames, Frames Plus, Opticals, Letterboxer, Broadcast Spec, as well as Deartifacter.įrames and Deartifacter is what every platform gets. After Effects users are going to find they have a few more than everyone else. There is also a separate Deartifacter plugin for Premiere Pro, Final Cut and Motion.
But the frames package is more than just a single plug-in. Enter Red Giant Software’s Frames.įrames is a plug-in set for Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Apple Motion. If an editor is working on a piece that requires adding archival footage, say footage shot on MiniDV from 1999, while the rest of the piece is shot in beautiful 1920×1080 24p, that editor may just want to convert that interlaced footage into something that looks progressive. Modern professional cameras are capable of wonderful things: 2K, 4K, gorgeous 24p progressive pictures.
